And Then...

A while back I was watching a special on KBYU. It was showing women in third world countries and talking about the hard lives they have. It told about how people were giving microlans to these women to help raise their families. (Microloans are very small loans given to people in poverty, helping them to become better entreprenuers.)
After watching this I got so excited to help, I looked it up online and sent a loan to a lady in Peru. Her name is Maria Pascuala, she is married and has three children.
She sells plastic products on the street. After giving her the loan she has been able to double her income and send her children to school.
She wrote us a cute little letter this week "demanding" us to come visit her as soon as we can. Hopefully sometime in the future we'll make it down there.

Thank you all for doing the quiz, i know they were hard, I didn't know any of the correct responses either. But I thought they were interesting. I shall be sending the prizes to all those that tried shortly. And I'll post what the answers are too.

Oh, Cedar City! (Sung to the Canadian National Anthem)

Brooks and I have been very busy lately. We both have full school schedules and Brooks just started his new job at Cafe Rio. He hated it at first but now he quite enjoys it because he gets free food and is able to make it himself (he makes the biggest burrito possible).

Quiz: Coming Soon. You may or may not win a prize if you get the most answers correct.
Hint: It will be on what I'm learning this year in school. My classes are Macroeconomics, World War I, Ancient Greece, Teaching Social Subjects, Cartography, and Adolescent Development. You better study up!

Fire!

Today Brooks and I were driving around knocking doors for Swan's Restoration Carpet Cleaning. (Sidenote: I didn't actually knock doors, I just cheered him on from inside the truck) When we came upon a freeway fire. It was pretty cool. Half of Cedar City was parked on the side of the hill to watch the burn.

I'm hoping it makes the news tonight.

In other exciting Shurtliff news:

We got are six billionth kitty from Enterprise. Her name is Tigger. I'm really trying to get this one to love me so she stays around. It will be two weeks on Thursday, so I think that's a good sign.

One kitty had a tragic death in Salt Lake, and the other I'm pretty sure was stolen. I've been making drive-by's at a certain house who the owner has told me they don't have cats, but I've seen with my own eyes a lady and a black kitty. Oh well..

I'm also teaching her tricks. Her play dead is pretty believable.

Cedar City Woman Cooks!

I made this delicious dish today. You start by layering zucchini and tomatoes.

Then I added summer squash, cheese and salt and pepper.

The finished product. Brooks loved it, there are no leftovers.
I got this recipe from Pioneer Woman or Food Network or Ashton Woman Cooks.
They're all so similar I can't really remember.

The sunset as seen from my bedroom window.

I'm looking forward to my Mom and sisters coming down for a few days. Hopefully a play and have lots of fun.

Our Life this Week!

Well, this week has been very (fun + sad =) interesting. We were able to go to Enterprise for the Twenty Fourth. First we woke up early and did the 5k Fun Run. Leona, Brooks’ Mom ran the whole way. The rest of us, Brooks’ siblings, Sue, her husband Martin, Casey, and his two sons and I walked. Even though I walked I received the biggest blister ever on my heal. Then after, we had a very big breakfast, provided by the scouts. It was tasty. After the yumminess we had the parade. It was exciting, lots of good church floats. We were able to see Tiffany Jorgensen’s parents. They just returned from their mission in the Marshall Islands, and got to ride a very fun carriage. We only had one mishap at the parade, a bloody leg from kids pushing, shoving, and diving after all the candy. The rest of the day we had naps and played games (lots of Rook).
Later that night we came home late around ten thirty. I went to the back to find kitty to give her a goodnight kiss, and there was no kitty. We got out the flashlight and started searching. We called and called and couldn’t hear anything except for a couple rowdy teens in the parking lot. So I tearily decided just to wake up early in the morning and search for her. I got up early and went straight to the pound. All I found there was fifteen little kittens meowing for me to take them home. The pound said that they had had three other reports of missing animals in our neighborhood. Poor kitty. Brooks went and knocked houses about a mile radius. I drove around yelling out the window and look for blood spatter on the road. No Lima. Because we had no luck and didn’t know what else to do we decided to straighten up the house. First we needed to get a queen size bed frame for the guest room, so that our visitors don’t feel like they’re sleeping on the floor. We went to the DI and in their yard they had a big pile of frames. Brooks and I started searching through it, carefully holding them up so they wouldn’t all fall. Then a very friendly worker/bed frame “know it all” came over to help. He started chucking them left and right and of course they all fell and landed on my ankle taking a chunk out of my leg. We still bought the frame.
The next morning we went to our church meetings. They were once again very spiritual, although we got the Zion's Camp lesson another time. We also received our Oquirrh Mountain temple dedication tickets. Crazy that they are cancelling all of the other church meetings on the 23rd so we can all attend huh?

Now for the good news, just as Brooks and I were going to bed we got a knock on the door. Guess who was back? Yep, the rowdy teens from the parking lot. They asked if we were the ones looking for the cat. And there was Lima, jumping out of the truck to come home. We’re so happy to have our Ninja kitty, and thank you Banner for all your plans and prayers to get kitty back. Here are pictures of the blister(2 days old), the DI injury and our sweet Lima, glad to be home after her adventure.
